The Terri Stone Rising Star
Endowment Fund & Award
Remembering Terri
Dr. Theresa “Terri” Stone was a beloved physician, educator, researcher, mentor, colleague, and friend—and a passionate champion for the power of food, nutrition, and lifestyle to improve health.
Terri also had an extraordinary ability to see promise in others. She encouraged new ideas, made connections, and generously invested her time and energy in helping emerging leaders grow with confidence and purpose.
The Terri Stone Rising Star Endowment Fund and Award was created to carry that spirit forward.
Throughout her career, Terri worked to transform the way we think about food, lifestyle, and health. She co-founded the Fresh & Savory Culinary Medicine Program at MedStar Health, served as Director of Graduate Medical Education in Culinary Medicine and Nutrition at MedStar Health, and was a longtime member of the Teaching Kitchen Collaborative.
Terri’s impact extended far beyond her professional accomplishments. She was generous with her ideas, her connections, and her encouragement. She believed deeply in people and had a gift for helping others recognize their own potential.
A Permanent Tribute
The Terri Stone Rising Star Endowment Fund will permanently support an annual award in Terri’s name. Our goal is to raise $100,000 to fully endow the award, ensuring that Terri’s legacy of service, generosity, and investment in others continues for generations to come.
Every gift, of any amount, becomes part of this permanent tribute to Terri and her extraordinary life of service.
The Terri Stone Rising Star Award
Beginning in 2027, the Terri Stone Rising Star Award will recognize an emerging leader who demonstrates exceptional promise and reflects the qualities Terri brought to this community: curiosity, collaboration, generosity, service, and a commitment to improving health through food and lifestyle.
The inaugural award will be presented at the Teaching Kitchen Symposium in Portland, Oregon, in September 2027.
Additional information about nominations and eligibility will be shared in 2027.
Award Selection Committee
We are deeply grateful to Andre Stone, Ginger Shipp, Nicole Farmer, MD, Jaclyn Albin, MD, Adi Haramati, PhD, Allison Righter, MSPH, RDN, and Jen Massa, DSc, who were instrumental in creating this endowment and award. Each knew Terri in a different way, and helped us think about how to create something that will carry forward the generosity, encouragement, and commitment to service that meant so much to those who knew her.
And special thanks to Terri’s extended family and friends, whose memories, partnership, and support have helped us create an award that reflects both Terri’s remarkable contributions and the generosity and commitment to others that defined her life.
