By 2030, it is projected that nearly half of American adults will be obese, and nearly a quarter will be severely obese. Employers’ average annual healthcare spending increased by 47% between 2009 and 2019. And in 2022, over 33 million Americans are food insecure.

While our medical system struggles to address alarmingly high rates of obesity, diabetes, and lifestyle-related chronic disease, and our planet suffers the deleterious effects of an industrial food system gone awry, people are finding pathways to healthier living outside the doctor’s office.

The solution to our complex health problems lies not in a pill or procedure, but in a simple yet powerful concept: the teaching kitchen.

Teaching kitchens offer education not only in basic cooking techniques but also nutrition, mindfulness, physical activity, and behavioral health coaching—creating long term positive behavior change. While the kitchen itself is an essential component, it is only the location, while the entire teaching kitchen curriculum is what drives engagement and outcomes over time.
