Teaching Kitchen Collaborative Multisite Trial

The Teaching Kitchen Collaborative Multisite Trial is a pilot study conducted by 4 Organization Member institutions in order to determine the benefits of participating in a teaching kitchen program. A randomized controlled pre-post intervention study design with self-assessment surveys and anthropometric data collected to evaluate patient outcomes.

The overall goals of this project are to:

  • Determine feasibility and acceptability of a teaching kitchen lifestyle intervention
  • Identify barriers and facilitators to effectively implementing teaching kitchen culinary and lifestyle education interventions
  • Assess if program participation improves participant movement, sleep, dietary, and culinary habits
  • Assess if program participation improves participant fasting blood levels of glucose, insulins, HbA1c, ALT/AST, total cholesterol, triglycerides, LDL, and HDL

Published in January 2025 in Nutrients, this protocol paper outlines the Teaching Kitchen Multisite Trial, an 18-month randomized controlled trial designed to assess the feasibility of a 12-month, 24-class hybrid lifestyle intervention implemented across four TKC member sites. The protocol sets the foundation for future studies and publications aimed at evaluating the impact of teaching kitchen interventions on dietary habits, physical activity, and overall health and well-being.
